Free Writing and Editing for Anti-Racism Organizations

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

At Crisp Text, we've been thinking a lot about how we can best address systemic racism, end police brutality, and contribute to creating a just society. We especially want to support the people who are already doing that important work.

We’ve decided the best way to contribute is by doing what we do best: writing and editing. We believe that the pen is mightier than the sword. High quality, thoughtful text can be a powerful tool for change.

But it takes energy to write.

Lots of us are exhausted or even physically hurt (see this violence against protesters and the intentional violence against journalists). No one needs Crisp Text to give them a voice—each of us already has one.

But not everyone has the time, energy, or mental well-being right now to corral all your thoughts together and turn them into words on a page.

We’re making the following offer.

To those of you in the community doing the work to eliminate racism and police brutality:

tell us what you want to say and we’ll write it (or edit it) for you. This is what it could look like:

  • You give an “idea dump” where you share everything you want to say.

  • We take notes, organize the ideas, and write them into a draft.

  • You look at it, tell us what you’d like edited, and we make the changes.

  • We do that until you like it.

  • Then you take it and share it. It’s yours. You publish it with your name. And it’s free.

What could we help you write?

Anything. Here are some ideas:

  • Articles / blogs

  • Social media posts

  • Grant applications

  • Petition text

  • Letters to the editor / Newspaper opinion editorials

  • Letters to the police / politicians / other figures

Fellow writer?

And if you're a fellow writer and are interested in getting involved, get in touch. We can organize and spread around the work.

Why are you doing this?

We all want a community without racism and without police brutality. We’ll get there through thoughtful dialogue and compelling voices. Crisp Text wants to help elevate the voices we most need to hear right now.

If you’re working against systemic racism and police brutality, and especially if you’re Black, Indigenous, or a person of colour, get in touch for free writing support.
